September Roundup: We Hit The North East Live Music Venues (by electropop duo Moodbay)
Updated: Mar 28, 2020
Having been locked away in the studio for a good year, writing and recording material it feels DAMN GOOD to get out into the real world, taking our sound to a live setting. Really great getting to know some of the live music venues in the North East. Here are our highlights:
We supported the incredible Plastic Mermaids on their UK tour, at ThinkTank?! in Newcastle. Wow, these guys know how to put on a beautiful live show. Such a treat to see them and the amazing Crimewave too. We were reviewed by GNE:
'Second on the bill was North East duo Moodbay. With influences cited including my faves Radiohead amongst Chrvches and Gorillaz, I was definitely intrigued.
Anna Stephens’ sweet vocals provided the story to complement impressive production from herself and second half of the duo, Alfie. I have to admit that electro-pop isn’t the usual genre that I go for but the tracks that these two created were super catchy as each loop ricocheted from the impossibly low ceiling of Think Tank and the arrangement of synths created expansive soundscapes.
An introduction of a heavier, more techno sound in the form of ‘Barley Fields’ was pretty epic to be honest. It might not have been a Saturday night but I wished at this moment it was. Those keys from Alfie were something else. Moodbay you were a pleasant surprise and I hope I catch you again soon.'

Anna's birthday was her 'best ever' - cos it was the night she realised how awesome the North East music-loving crowds are. It helped that we were playing at the oldest running venue in Stockton-on-Tees - the incredible Georgian Theatre - where people come to see what's happening in the local music scene, including a guy who's flat is literally next door and has been to every single gig there for the entire year cos he can hear it through the walls anyway - he even pops back home during intervals to grab a beer from his kitchen fridge. MASSIVE THANKS to everyone there for dancing & head-bopping. We were opening the show for the amazing Twist Helix, who kindly asked us to support them there. PEACE to them, they smashed it and had us dancing too. So glad we took you up on the offer, because we met some amazing people that night who we hope to perform in front of again very soon.
